Plot
A series of events linked by causality leading to a climax (the story line)
Protagonist
The main character in a story
Pun
A play on words, usually having two meanings, often for comic effect.
Sarcasm
Verbal irony or saying something but meaning the opposite. The intent is usually to harm
Satire
The combination of critical attitude with wit and humour for the purpose of improving humanity. The author will make the subject appear so ridiculous that it is obvious he/she is making some critical comment about it. The intent is to instruct.
Setting
The time, place, and circumstances of a story.
Suspense
A mental uncertainty.
Symbol
A concrete representation of something that is abstract (an idea)
Theme
The lesson or moral which the author is trying to convey. Theme is a statement not a topic.
Tone
The feelings of the author towards the subject.
