Irony
the opposite of that which is expected

Foreshadowing
subtle hint to future action
Flashback
reflecting on past events, provides the reader with missing information
Theme
the main idea of the story, a general statement of the author about life
Suspense
state of uncertainty, a feeling of curiosity or anxiety is felt by the reader
Pathos
feelings of pity for a character
Allusion
an indirect or passing reference to a real event, person, place, or artistic work
Dramatic Irony
when the reader knows information that other characters do not know
Nemesis
a just reward or punishment for a character that is related to their actions
Local Colour
details in the setting that make a story more authentic
