Alliteration

Connotation

The choice of a particular word compared to others
Diction
A writer determines the readers reaction to the object of description and and contributes the authors style and tone.

The use of hints or clues to suggest what will happen later in the literature

Any kind of concrete (sensory) image created in your mind through the written word
Imagery
The comparison of two unlike things without using “like” or “as”
Metaphor
The feeling or atmosphere that a writer creates for the reader that can change throughout the story
Mood
When an object or animal is given human characteristics that it would not normally possess
Personification
A comparison of two unlike things using “like” or “as”
Simile
In a work, a literal object or character action that stands for something more than its literal definition
Symbol
The authors attitude toward the writing conveyed through the author’s words and details
