Antagonist
A character or a group of characters which stand in opposition to the protagonist
Connotation
A meaning that is implied by a wrd apart from the thing which it describes explicitly
Denotation
Literal or dictionary meaning of words
Foreshadowing
A writer gives an advance hint of what is to come
Inference
A concusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning
Mood
A literaey element that evokes certain feelings or vibes in reaaders through words and discriptions. Mood is the atmosphere, sparking an emotional responce from the reader. (Tone is controled by the writer; mood is felt by the reader)
Plot
The events that make up a story or the main part of a story. Consists of the exposition (begining), inciting incident, conflit, rising action, climax, and the resolution (or denonement)
Point of Veiw
The mode of narration that an author employs to the the reader “hear” and “see”: what takes [lace in a story, poem, essay etc.
First person POV- involves the use of either of the two pronouns I and we
Second person POV-Employs the pronoun you
Thrid person POV- Uses pronouns like he, she, it, they, or a name
Protagonist
The central character or leading figure in poetry, narrative, novel or any other story.
Style
The authors’sd own unique way of writing
Symbol/Symbolism
An object representing another to give it an entiorly differnent meaning that us much depper and more significant
Theme
A main idea or an underlying meaning of a literary work tat may be stated directly or indirectly
Tone
An attitude of a writer toward a subject or an audience. Tone is generally conveyed throught eh choice of words or the viewpoint of a writer an a particular subject.
