Prose poem
A short composition employing the devices and rhythms of free verse but formatted as a prose
Epic poem
A long narrative recounting the deeds of legendary Heroes
Biography
Form of non-fiction in which a writer tells the life story oh another
Drama
A play for theater, radio or television
Essay
A short piece of writing on a particular subject
History
A non-fiction writing about past events
Lyric poem
short poem of a song like quality
Novel
A fiction prose narrative of book length, typically representing character and action with some degree of realism
Quatrain
A stanza of four lines, usually with an AABB, ABAB, or ABCD rhyme pattern.
Ballad stanza
Four lines that rhyme in the second and fourth lines.
Four metrical feet in the first and third lines and three in the second and fourth.
Free verse
Poetry based on irregular rhythmic cadence rather than the conventional use of meter.
Haiku
Three lines and seventeen syllables, distributed 5, 7, and 5.
Typically renders moment or sensation and often concerns nature
Prose
Ordinary form of written language, not poetry
Expository
Explains its own meaning or purpose
