Characterization
The process by which a writer describes and develops character. Direct Characterization refers to the physical description of the figure, or what is said about the character. Indirect Characterization refers to development through dialogue or action.
Climax
The point in the plot at which the action stops rising and begins falling or reversing.
Conflict
The “problem” or struggle faced by the protagonist. Conflicts can be external (physical environment or another character) or internal (emotional or moral struggle).
Mood
The atmosphere or feeling a reader percieves when reading a text. It is suggested by descriptive detail and diction.
Point of View
The prospective of which the story told. Omniscient point of view is told using 3rd person, knowing all the thoughts, feelings, and actions of the characters; Limited omniscient where the narrator has limited knowledge of one character, and first person, where one character recounts the plot.
Setting
Denotes the time, place, and atmosphere of the work
Theme
The universal message or moral of the story
