allusion
a reference to some event, person, place, or artistic work, the nature and relevance of which is not explained by the writer but relies on the reader’s familiarity with what is mentioned
diction

flashback
a scene that interrupts the normal chronological sequence of events in a story to depict something that happened at an earlier time
foreshadowing
a technique used to give clues to coming events in a narrative

contrast between expectation and reality, said and meant, expected to happen and actually happens, appears to be true and actually true
