Contains magical or supernatural, characters and items
Science fiction
Imaginative story about science technology space or the future
Biography
A retelling of a real persons life written by someone else
Thematic idea
One word/phrase the writer wants people to think about, explore, and understand while reading
Setting
When and where the story takes place
Protagonist
The main character
Antagonist
The character who works or struggles against the main character
Characterization
The ways the writer creates and develops a character to bring them life
Simile
A comparison of to things using “like” or “as”
Metaphor
A direct comparison stating that one thing is something else
Foreshadowing
Clues or hints about what will happen later in the story
Flashback
Retelling events that already happened in the past
Plot
A sequence of events
Exposition
The beginning of a story that introduces the setting and characters
Rising action
The part of the story when th conflict is introduced and becomes intense
Climax
The highest emotional point of the story
Falling action
All of the events that occur as a result of the climax
Resolution
The ending

A conflict a character has with another character or out side force
Internal conflict
A conflict a character has inside his or her self
Point of view
Perspective from witch a story was told
Third point of view
The narrator is not part of the story but knows and reveals characters’ thoughts and feelings

The narrator is part of the story
