What is stage hogging?
Ignore or interrupt others who share an experience. Thinking that your own experience
Is much more interesting.
What is pseudo listening?
When we act like we are listening.
What is selective listening?
When we only listen to topics that interest us.
What is insulated listening?
We tune out topics we don’t like or find objectionable.
What is attack listening?
Listening to primarily gain ammunition we can use against other people.
What is defensive listening?
It occurs when we assume that whatever others say somehow reflects negatively on ourself. ( low self-esteem)
Provide 8 specific things you can do to help your conversational partner listen to you.
- Speak clearly.
- Speak succinctly.
- Speak commandingly.
- Speak unambiguously.
- Ask for or demand attention.
- Ask for feedback.
- Provide listening motivators.
- Model good listening behavior.
