List 2 Flashcards
Swine plant state B
Normal shutdown state but with a reduced temperature. This minimises the energy release if an accident were to occur
What is the function of the separator and how does it work
To remove any water trapped in the steam. The heavier water droplets are centrifuged out of the mixture and the steam rises to the driers
What is the function of the dump steam valve
To control the discharge of steam to the main condensers during the following operations
1) power range testing
2) reactor cool-down
3) emergency (upstream steam leak)
Valve spindle leakoff, where does it collect from
1) generator turbine control valve spindles inner pockets
2) TGCSEV spindle inner pocket
3) main turbine ahead and astern throttle valve spindles inner pockets
4) cruise valve spindle inner pocket
What is the function of the steam drains system
To remove condensate from the steam systems and their associated equipment and to enable the systems to be completely drained of water during shutdown periods
Where is the astern section of the main turbine
Is at the forward end of the rotor and consists of a Curtis wheel
Name 4 items on the shaft line diagram
Main turbines Raft Main gearbox Main wheel Flexible coupling Journal bearings Thrust block Loose coupling Shaft locking gear Torsion meter Shaft seal Fwd stern tube bearing Fwd stern tube Aft stern & bearing Propulsor
What is the system code for the main feed system
FW
List 4 items cooled by the aft ships fresh water cooling system
1) CW plants
2) LO coolers
3) TG air coolers
4) evaporators
5) HP air comps
6) emergency prop motor cooler
7) turbine throttle control oil coolers
8) LP bilge pump cooling coil
9) HP bilge and ballast priming pump cooling coil
Briefly describe the main circulating water pump
Consists of a 5 blades impeller mounted directly onto the rotor of a canned two speed induction motor contained within a motor casing
What is the function of the clean sea water system
Provides a supply of pressurised and filtered sea water to the following:
1) main shaft Fwd and after seals
2) main shaft emergency seal and forward stern tube bearing
3) MCWP motor cooling circuit
What happens if a power transient occurs (pressuriser)
In operation the pressuriser contains a steam bubble in the top which is maintained by electric heaters in the base of the pressuriser and a spray head in the top
In what order do the primary relief valves open
Steam, low, high
What is W501 and what does it do
Solenoid valve w501
The main isolating valve for the system. Remotely operated. Fitted to the inlet of the system. Electrically operated valve with a 24VDC supply and fails shut on loss of 24VDC
To isolate the system if an emergency occurs
Copland discharge system (LP) what drains into the active/ non active tanks
1) RCFW head tank overflow
2) condensation from ATU’s, RPV drip shield
3) Backflushing the VOW flasks
4) Active drain tank overflow
