1. Surface is cleaned. Surface must be smooth.
2. Liquid dye or fluorescent penetrant is applied by spraying and allowed to soak into any surface flaws.
3. Excess dye is cleaned off.
4. Under UV light the flaw fluoresces along the crack and is easily seen.
