Introduction Flashcards
Why use NDT? (4)
List applications of this. (2)
Components are not destroyed.
Can test for internal flaws.
Useful for valuable components.
Can test components that are in use.
Used in manufacturing to find defects in castings or welds.
Used for operational safety - checking machines, pipelines and aircraft parts for defects caused by fatigue, wear, impacts or corrosion.
What is NDT?
NDT are techniques used to find flaws in a material, without damaging the material.
Name the types of non-destructive tests (6)
Visual testing Liquid penetrant testing Magnetic particle testing eddy current testing ultrasonic testing x-ray/radiographic testing
What are the advantages of NDTs?
What are the disadvantages of NDTs?
They do not damage the tested parts.
The tested parts can be sold or continued to be used in operation.
Some NDT equipment can be expensive.
