Q

What are the functions of simple lipid?

A
  1. Effective source of energy
    - higher energy value than carbo. per unit mass due to more C atom
  2. Effective source of water
    - metabolic water is obtained when triglyceride is oxidised in aerobic respiration
    - 1g of tri has 2x more H
  3. Thermal insulating material
    - conducts heat very slowly
    - beneath skin as subcutaneous fat prevents excessive heat lose
  4. Provide buoyancy
    -less dense than water
    => float on water
