Lipids 3: Brown fat Flashcards
1
Q
What is general structural features of white adipocytes vs brown adipocytes
A
White: contains single lipid droplet with peripheral nucleus and low mitochondria density.
Brown: Numerous small lipid droplets an
2
Q
What is location and function of white adipose vs brown adipose
A
White: Energy storage, receptors for hormones. pro inflammatory
Brown: metabolically active. Heats the blood and, thermogenesis
3
Q
What is Shivering thermogenesis
A
This is the
4
Q
What activates
A
Norepinehrine
5
Q
What
A
Each cell of brown adipose is highly specialised
6
Q
How does brown adipose getting tissue activated
A
- Cold/ diet signals activates SympNS which releases noradrenaline which stimulates B-3 adrenoreceptor.
- This makes Adenylate cyclase increase cAMP which activates protein kinase A.
- PKA which phosphorylates
a) CREB-> increased production of UCP 1 protein
b) Perilipin -> exposes the TAG
c) HSL-> hydrolyses the fatty acids from TAG. - Fatty acids go to the mitochondria to be oxidised
- They make FADh
