The Lion and the Fox
किसी समय में एक घना हरा जंगल था
Once upon a time there was a dense green jungle.
जहाँ जानवरों को खाने के लिए बहुत कुछ मिलता था
There there were lots of the things for the animals to eat.
फिर आदमी मशीनें लेकर आए
Then men brought machines
अौर उन्होंने पेड़ काटने शुरू किए
And they began to cut down the trees
कम पेड़ यानि कम जानवर
Less trees means less animals
फिर ताक़तवर शेर ने देखा कि खाने को कुछ बचा ही नहीं।
Then a strong lion saw there was nothing left to eat.
हमें मिलकर काम करना होगा, उसने मित्र लोमड़ी ये कहा।
We will work together, he told his friend the fox.
तुम जानवर ढूँढकर मेरे पास ले आगे।
You search for animals and bring them here to me.
मैं उसे मारूँगा, आैर फिर हम दोनों मिलकर उसे खाएँगे।
I will kill them, and then we two will eat them together.
लोमड़ी ढूँढती रही, ढूँढती रही।
The fox searched and searched.
आख़िर में उसे लट्ठों के एक ढेर के पास खड़ा एक आदमी मिला।
At last (finally) he met a man standing by a pile of logs.
जंगल के उस तरफ़ इससे भी बड़े अौर अच्छे पेड़ हैं।
On the other side of the jungle there are bigger and better trees.
लोमड़ी ने उससे कहा।
The fox told him.
कहाँ? कहाँ? मुझे दिखाओ
where? where? Show me!
लालची आदमी बोला।
The greedy man said.
लोमड़ी उस आदमी को जंगल में यहाँ वहाँ,
Here and there in the jungle the fox took the man,
गोल-गोल घुमाती रही ….
Escorted him round and round.
और वहाँ ले गई
???
जहाँ भूखा शेर इंतज़ार कर रहा था।
There the hungry lion was waiting???
शेर ने आदमी की आमेर छलाँग मारी।
The lion leapt at the man???
आदमी सबसे पास वाले पेड़ पर बंदर की तरह लपका।
The man suddenly jumped into the tree like a monkey???
शेर आैर लोमड़ी को ज़्यादा चिंता नहीं थी
The Lion and the Fox weren’t very worried???
वे जानते थे कि यह आदमी बच नहीं सकता है।
They knew that the man could not escape???
वे विचार करने लगे कि वे किस तरह खानेको बाँटेंगे।
???
मैं पैरों की उँगलियों से शुरू करूँगा, शेर बोला।
I will begin with the toes, the lion said???
मैं हाथों की उँगलियों से शुरु करूँगी, एक-एक करके उन्होंने चुन लिया कि कौन क्या खाएगा।
I’d start with the fingers, one by one they chose who would eat what???
आख़िर में शेर अपने होंठों को चाटते हुए कहा, “मैं भेजा खाऊँगा। म्म्म्म!”
Finally the lion licked his lips and said “I will eat the brain, hmmmm”
लोमड़ी भी उस आदमी के भेजेंगे को खाने के सपने देख रही थी।
The fox was also imaging eating the mans brains???
उसने शेर से कहा, “पर इस आदमी का तो भेजा है ही नहीं”!
He told the lion “This man has no brains”???
अगर होता तो क्या वह पेड़ काटकर जंगल को मष्ट कर हेता?”

वह चारों ओर पेड़ ढूँढ रहा था जिनपर वह लपककर भाग सके।
