Link Reaction Flashcards
1
Q
Where does the Link reaction happen?
A
The matrix
2
Q
Stage 1
A
Pyruvate (3 carbon) from glycolysis actively transported into matrix of mitochondria
3
Q
Stage 2
A
pyruvate becomes decarboxylated (lose co2) and become oxidised (lose hydrogen). The hydrogen is accepted by co-enzyme NAD to become NADH.
4
Q
Stage 3
A
Now you have a 2 carbon compound called Acetate. It joins with coenzyme A to form Acetyl CoA
5
Q
How many times does the Link reaction happen?
A
Twice for each molecule of glucose because there are two pyruvates for each glucose.
6
Q
What are the products?
A
2 co2
2 NADH
2 Acetyl CoA
