Lines of deffence against pathogens and Antogens Flashcards
What is a pathogen?
A living thing that can cause infections
What is an antigen?
A non-living thing that causes infections
What is your bodies first line of defence?
Skin, sweat, oils, mucus, stomach acid, and silica
What is your bodies two immune responses/second line of defence?
inate imune response
acwired imune responce
What happens with an innate immune response?
- Fever, inflammation
- Phagocytes engulf pathogen
(fag-“o”-sites)
What happens with an acwired inate responce?
- Helper T-Cells recognize the antigen
- signals B-Cells and Killer-T-Cells
- B-Cells produce antibodies that bind pathogens, which then are eliminated.
- B-cells turn into Memory B-cells, ready to produce antibodies for the same pathogen in the future
- Killer-T-Cells attack and destroy
What is an acquired innate response?
A response to a specific type of pathogen that has entered the body before
What is an inate imune responce?
A response towards an unknown pathogen that has not invaded the body before
What cells are carried in the blood to fight infections?
White blood cells
