Druides a bello abesse solent neque tributa una cum reliquis pendunt; militae vacationem omniumque rerum immunitatem habent.
The Druids are usually exempt from war and do not pay taxes together with the rest of the people; they have exemption from military service and freedom from all duties.
tantis praemiis excitati et sua sponte multi in disciplinam conveniunt et a parentibus propinquisque mittuntur.
Motivated by such rewards, many of their own accord are drawn for training as well as being sent by their parents and relatives.
magnum ibi numerum versuum ediscere dicuntur; itaque nonnulli viginti annos in disciplina permanent.
There they are said to learn by heart a great number of verses; and so some remain in that training for twenty years.
neque fas esse existimatur hos versus litteris mandare, cum in reliquis fere rebus Graecis litteris utantur.
They do not think it is right to commit these verses to writing, although in almost all other matters they do use Greek writing.
