Wollstonecraft: A murder, who has perished?
Our dear friend Jefferson
Hume
Does it truly require action? Does the act of murder not hold some reason, is there not some sentiment behind this killing?
Every person has a right to life, a person’s own debilitating childhood which according to you has justifiably condemned him to a life of crime, is no excuse for the taking of this right.
Is it right to condemn anyone to the punishment of torture? We have no proof that any one of us has done it, the system of torture prescribed by authority is inhumane and should not be abided by simply because of tradition. It is a step away from Aristotelianism, for we must be our own philosophers, my good men.
Wonderful thinking, Mary, this notion of justified torture does not serve the people, and we must make sure that the government serves the people.
Montesquieu
Rousseau this is no time for your deranged philosophy. Perhaps the killing was a heinous act by an enemy of republicanism. Shameless.
Montesquieu, you might certainly be onto something. There is the possibility that Hume has just committed a grave crime. Did anyone see him near Jefferson’s coffee cup?
Wollstonecraft
You think it was poison?
I fear it could have been anything, but Thomas perished just after he sipped from his coffee
Hume
But wait, causes must be discovered through expier-
I agree wholeheartedly, I read once that he referred to your work Hume as a poison. Maybe that inspired something within you? As you always insist, reason is the slave of passions.
Wollstonecraft
First of all, How DARE you? And second, while I do believe that Jefferson was a subjugator of women, he certainly did create a country that agrees with many of my beliefs of republicanism. I believe that Locke can probably be ruled out.
Thank you Mary, Jefferson and I agreed on much the natural rights of life and liberty, it hurts to see him go in such a cruel way. I do think, however, that we might benefit from some inspection of Rousseau.
