Linear motion Flashcards
What is linear motion?
Movement of a body in a straight or curved line, where all parts of the body move the same distance in the same direction
What is an example of Linear motion
The luge as all parts of body do the same
What are the 6 descriptors?
- Distance
- Displacement
- Speed
- Velocity
- Acceleration
- Deceleration
Distance =
Area covered from A to B, measured in metres
Displacement =
Shortest area from A to B, in metres
Velocity
Rate of change of distance, measured in M/S
Acceleration
Rate of change in velocity, measured in M/S/S
Acceleration (M/S/S) = (final velocity - initial velocity (m/s) / time taken (s))
Deceleration
Negative rate change in velocity, measured in M/S/S.
Speed
Rate of change in distance, measured in meters per second m/s.
Speed (m/s) = distance (m) / time (s)
