Linear and Quadratic Equations Flashcards
Solving an Equation
When given an EQUATION with a FRACTION and asked to solve the equation as a whole, where do you start?
1. Use COMMON IDENTITY rules to reduce the EXPRESSIONS to their simplest form.
2. FACTOR out like TERMS.
3. CANCEL any terms that are COMMON in the NUMERATOR and DENOMINATOR.
Solving an Equation for a Variable
When given an EQUATION with a FRACTION and asked to SOLVE for a VARIABLE, where do you start?
1. Remove the FRACTION from the equation.
2. Group like terms.
3. Solve for required VARIABLE.
Complex Fractions
What are the steps you need to follow when solving a COMPLEX FRACTION?
1. Reduce the NUMERATOR to a SIMPLE FRACTION.
2. Reduce the DENOMINATOR to a SIMPLE FRACTION.
Equations with Fractions
What do you do first when solving an EQUATION with FRACTIONS.
Get rid of the FRACTIONS.
1. Cross Multiply.
2. Multiply by a LCD.
