Line Bending Flashcards
What is line bending?
Line bending is used to form straight, curved bends in thermoplastic sheet materials. An electrical element is enclosed channel with a top opening. The width can be changed by adjusting the height.
What is the process of line bending?
Both sides of the thermoplastic sheets are heated equally. This prevents any blisters or air pockets on the material. The heating times vary to the thickness and colour of the plastic.
How is accuracy achieved during heating?
The material can clamped between the heating wires on the machine. To avoid marks on the bend the material is placed in an oven and heated for four hours at 80 degrees.
What is line bending used for?
Line bending is used to make simple bends in a sheet of thermoplastic polymer.
How is the plastic bent?
During the process that material is heated along a line using heating element. The plastic softens and this allows it to become bendable and flexible.
What are the disadvantages of line bending?
The material can burn if it is left to be heated for too long. Also it is quite difficult t make any corrections one the material has been bent.
What are the advantages of line bending?
Straight bends are produces efficiently. The set up costs are. very low and no tooling is involved.
