Injection Moulding Flashcards
What is the purpose of injection moulding?
Injection moulding produces large numbers of high quality parts very quickly which makes this very beneficial.
The process of injection moulding
Plastic materials formed like granules are melted till they are soft enough to o be infected under pressure to fill a mould to make an identical copy of the shape.
What happens in the cooling process?
Once the mould cools and hardens the injection mould opens and releases the part and repeats.
How is the mould inserted?
The molten plastic formed by the small pellets in the barrel of the moulding machine is then injected under high pressure into the mould.
What does dwelling mean?
After the plastic has been injected into the mould, large amounts of pressure is applied to fill all air pockets and gaps. After it has cooled they become solid inside the mould.
What happens during the opening process?
During the opening process the platen moves away from the fixed mould separating it. Blasts of air helps the ejection of the plastic moulding from the injection tool
