LIHBE Information Gathering Flashcards
Life
Are there any persons involved? How many?
What is their last known location?
Where is that in relation to the fire?
What is the quickest route to them?
Why have they not made their own way out?
Incident
What is on fire?
What is the vicinity of the fire?
How long has it been burning?
Where is the fire?
What is the quickest route to that location?
Hazards
- Is there anything inside that could cause harm to crews? (Consider generic hazards associated with incident type, but also interrogate any incident-specific hazards that may be present)
- Do you have to take any special precautions with anything in the building?
- How is this likely to behave if involved in fire?
- Where are the hazards in relation to the fire/any known persons?
- Location of utilities isolations?
Building
- Can you provide/draw a plan of the layout of the building? (Specify what features need to be included, such as entry points, location of utilities isolation, known/suspected locations of persons, location of fire etc.)
What materials are used in the construction of the building? (e.g., LISPS, asbestos) - Is the building generally in good order? Is there any work being undertaken?
- Are the internal doors likely to be closed? Is it open-plan?
- Are there any active or passive fire protection systems present? How could these be used/isolated if needed?
Environment
How do our actions impact the environment?
* Media run-off
* Smoke plume
* Sites of special scientific interest (SSSIs)
* Interceptors?
How does the environment affect our actions?
* Nearby infrastructure (e.g., roads, overhead line equipment etc.)
* Weather (e.g., wind direction/strength, temperature, ground conditions)
* Access/egress/RVP
* Nearby/adjacent properties (Consider the potential for escalation - if the fire spreads where is it going?)
