Soundtrack, Score, Diegetic Sound, Non Diegetic Sound, Sound Bridge, Foley Sound
Diegetic Sound
Sound set within the world of the film which characters within that world can hear
Non Diegetic
Sound which is external to the film world, characters within the film cannot hear it
Sound FX
Sound other than speech or music which is made ARTIFICIALLY for use in a film
Foley Sound
Everyday sounds recorded for use in post production to enhance audio quality
Enhanced Sound
Sound which has been increased in level for dramatic effect but that you would not normally notice the sound of
Parallel Sound
Sound that matches the mood or tone of the sequence
Contrapuntal
Sound that strongly contrasts with the mood or tone of the scene
Musical Score
The music written to accompany the film at the post production stage in the musical score consideration should be given to: PITCH, PACE
Voice Over
A narrators voice used as a narrative device to give the audience an insight. This might be a main protagonist telling the story, it could be a character telling us their inner thoughts, it could be a minor character telling the story from their point of view or it could be a completely removed character telling the story (in the third person)
Sound Bridge
Sound which is used to carry an audience from one scene to another
