A
  • Removes harsh shadows from an image
  • emphasizes whites and bright colors
  • replicates a sunny day, so usually conveys a positive or upbeat tone, it is used to convey humour, beauty, optimism, youthfulness, energy or joy
  • can imply high quality in advertising

  • creates more shadows
  • emphasizes dark, grey and black tones
  • creates a sense of drama and tension because of the contrast between light and dark areas
  • conveys mystery, tension, alienation, foreboding and threat
  • emphasizes emotional intensity in specific scenes
