Q

Why is a piece of glass not fully transparent?

A

Glass in not fully transparent because it’s structure enables for only some energy wavelengths, including the majority of visible light, come through the solid. Additionally, glass impurities and varying types of glass can also prevent more energy waves from coming through.

Q

What makes a regular mirror opaque?

A

This is because we can’t see what’s behind the mirror and the glass reflects all visible light creating images seen by our eyes

Q

What is the primary reason why most of the light reflects off a one-way mirror?

A

One-way mirrors are half-silvered. This is the reason why most of the light reflects. This also is why one side of the one-way mirror is reflective and the other side is transparent

Q

What happens when light shines off of an object?

A

Reflection is what happens when incoming light hits an object and bounces back, often creating an image based off the type of light wavelengths bounced back and not absorbed

Q

Why can we see most of the objects around us?

A

The light will bounce off of the object and will at some point hit your eyes to reflect an image, color, etc

Q

What happens when light shines off of a regular mirror?

A

All of the light bounced off from objects will bounce back from the mirror, which is why we can see our reflection

Q

How is a one-way mirror different from glass?
How is a one-way mirror different from a regular mirror?

A

A one-way mirror is transparent on one side and reflective on the other, whereas glass is transparent on both sides
One-way mirrors are transparent on one side and reflective on the other, but a regular mirror is not transparent, it’s just reflective

Q

how does light travel?

A

Light travels in a straight line. Light travels in waves, it doesn’t need any matter or material to help carry the energy along
