Light Flashcards
How does light travel
In straight lines
What is light
Energy
What happens when light travels onto a new medium
- some light can be absorbed into the new medium
- some light can reflected
- some light can be transmitted
What is white light
White light consists go a spectrum of different frequencies and wavelengths
How is a rainbow formed
A rainbow is formed when light falls on water droplets in the air and is refracted and dispersed into different colours
What is bending of light called
Refraction
Name two types of telescopes
1) refracting telescope ( astronomical)
2) optical telescope ( mirror)
In a refracting telescope what does the second lens do
Inverts image of a distant object very near the focal point of the second lens
Why do we have optical telescopes
Because of the difficulty in constructions in large lenses, curved mirrors are used as the objective in the largest telescopes. We call these reflecting telescopes
