Light Flashcards
Laws of Reflection of Light
Angle of incidence equals to angle of reflection.
Incidence ray, reflected ray and normal at the point of incidence all lies on the same plane.
Characteristic of Reflection
Virtual Image Upright Laterally Inverted Image distance equals to object distance Same size
Real Image
An image that can be captured on a screen and is formed by the intersection of light rays from the object at the screen
Virtual image
Cannot be captured on a screen and is formed by the intersection of the mifbt rays that appear to come from the image
Refraction of Light
Bending of light as it passes from one optical medium to another due to the change in the speed of light
Laws of Refraction of Light
Incident ray, refracted ray and the normal at the point of incidence all lie on the same plane
The ration of sin i to sin r is constant for two given media
Refractive index
n= sin i/sin r n= speed of light in vacuum/speed of light in medium
Total Internal Reflection
The complete reflection of a light ray inside an optically denser medium at its boundary with an optically less dense medium
Conditions to TIR
Light ray should be inside the optically denser medium, heading towards the boundary with an optically less dense medium
i > c
Critical angle
i in optically denser medium for r of optically less dense medium is 90•
n=1/sin c
