ligaments Flashcards
interclavicular ligament
location and role
Runs from one medial head to the other medial head
Does not allow the medial heads of the clavicles to move away from each other
of sc joint
costoclavicular ligament
location and role
Comes off 1st rib & runs up to medial head of clavicle
Prevents elevation of the medial head of the clavicle
strongest of 4 sc ligaments
of sc joint
anterior sc ligament
location and role
attaches to manubrium of sternum
Covers front of SC joint
Prevents posterior displacement of medial head of clavicle
of sc joint
posterior sc ligament
location and role
attaches to manubrium of sternum
Cover back of SC joint
Prevent anterior displacement of medial head of clavicle
of sc joint
Acromioclavicular ligament
location and role
holds lateral head of clavicle against the acromion process
does not provide much stability, weak ligament
Lateral clavicle is flat
Thickens fibrous portion of capsule,
of ac joint
Coracoclavicular ligament
location and role
major stabilizing ligament of ac joint
two components make a āVā - trapezoid and conoid
trapezoid is lateral anterior, conoid is medial posterior
connects coracoid process to clavicle
prevents medial displacement of scapula
prevents clavicle from going up
of ac joint
Coracoacromial
location and role
Forms a roof over the Glenoid joint
Connects Coracoid Process to Acromion Process
No stabilizing properties
of ac joint
