Ligamentous Articular Strain (Boesler) Flashcards
What act as checks to the voluntary actions of muscles?
Ligaments!
In a normal joint, the tension of ligaments are balanced, what are they used for?
Used to center bones in the articular grooves and spaces.
In normal physiological motion……
Ligaments are not over or under stretched! Mind BLOWN.
OPP grants you….
The ability to heal animals with magic
The strained ligament (the one overstretched) becomes….
Lax. The tighter ligamant is more normal
In indirect techniques, you are looking for the new…..
Neutral. Between the restrictive barrier and the normal sides anatomic barrier.
On it’s own, LAS is an…….
Indirect Technique (TQ?)
What’s the first step of LAS?
Disengage. Compress or decompress the joint or fascia, increasing pressure until you can move the injured part. The new neutral!
Second step of LAS?
Exaggerate. Carry the injured part back o the original position of injury until a balanced point is reached.
Third step of LAS?
Balance. Maintain the dysfxn in the position of injury until a release of tissue occurs.
BLT vs LAS?
BLT uses lighter force and respiration (BLT is 1-3 pounds of force, LAS can be as high as 40 pounds!). But both are used for ligamentous structures.
What are the contraindications?
Possible fracture. Ligament rupture or tear. Position causes other symptoms to appear.
Still techniques are a combo of both…..
Direct and Indirect
What are the three necessary components of Still techniques?
TQ
- Vector force- Runs into the tissue, no more than 5 pounds of pressure
- Sensing hand/finger- Stabilize/monitor tissues, provides feedback on vector force
- Operating hand- Introduces the vector force and moves the tissue through ROM and the direct barrier
First step of Still techniques?
Assess motion
