Lift Flashcards
Chord line?
The straight line between the blades leading edge and its trailing edge
Blade angle
The difference between the chord of the blade and the plane of rotation. This angle may be altered by the pilot through movement of the collective lever through the cyclic control
Angle of attack
The angular difference between the chord of the blade and the relative airflow(also know as the relative wind)
Feathering axis?
The straight line axis between the root of the blade and its tip about which the blade can alter its blade angle.
Feathering
The moment of the blade about its feathering axis( which results in blade angle, or pitch angle, changes)
What is inertia
Objects resistance to change in motion
What is Newton’s second law
Force=Mass x acceleration
Newton’s first law?
Inertia
Newton’s third law ?
Equal and opposite reactions
Velocity is?
Speed and direction
Acceleration is?
Rate of change in velocity
Equilibrium is?
A state of zero acceleration
Centripetal force?
Force into a turn
Vector quantity’s ?
Magnitude and direction
What is a moment?
Is the product of a force over a given linear distance
Distance x force=?
A moment
A couple consists of ?
Two equal, parallel and opposite forces
Linear graphs?
Straight lines
Exponential graph?
Curved line
Total presssure=
Static pressure + dynamic pressure
Translational lift increases as?
Airspeed increases
Inflow roll is caused by?
Less rotor thrust produced at the rear of the disc than at the front which results in a roll to the advancing side
