Liffe Science Test Flashcards
What does a scientist do
Ask questions, make detailed observations, find answers using tests and question the answers
what is evidence
made up of observations a scientist made during an experiment
what is an experiment
a test to see if a hypothesis is right or wrong
what is modern science
a way of understanding based on evidence, reasoning and repeated testing
what are life sciences
study of living organisms and how they interact with each other and their environment
name 3 things that make up evidence
- direct physical observation of something
- usually something measurable
- data resulting from an experiment
what is a scientific theory
a well established and tested explanation of observations or evidence. It helps us understand our world
what is the cell theory (3 things)
- all organisms are made up of cells
- cells are the basic unit of an organism
- cells only come from other cells (life from life)
what is the theory of evolution
explains how populations of organisms change over time. explains why there are many types of organisms on earth.
what is the goal of science
it helps us answer questions about our physical world. It teaches us we need evidence to explain our observations
where do you think the first cell came from
????
what do all fields of life science have in common
they all deal with living organisms and how they interact
what is the scientific method
a process used to investigate the unknown using observable evidence and testing
what are the steps in the scientific method
- observe.
- identify a question
- find out what is already known (research)
- make a hypothesis
- test the hypothesis
- analyze your results
- communicate your results
what are observations
things you notice about an environment using your 5 senses
