Life Science Cells Quiz Flashcards
What is an organelle
An organelle are small objects inside cells that have jobs (also known as it’s functions)
What is a cell
A cell is the basic unit that is alive
(or a part of a living thing)
What is a nucleus
A nucleus is an organelle of a cell that controls everything in the cell and contains the DNA
What is a cell membrane
A cell membrane is a bag-like covering that allows molecules to go in and out of a cell
( semi-permeable), location of cellular absorption
What are mitochondria
Mitochondria are bean shaped organelles that release energy from sugar molecules (glucose) with oxygen. Location of cellular respiration
What is cytoplasm
Cytoplasm is the gel material filling the cell membrane
What is a cell wall
A cell wall is a rigid or stiff second protective layer on the outside of each plant and fungus cell, outside the cell membrane
What is a vacuole
A vacuole is an organelle in plant and fungus cells that stores water, sugar, and minerals and is larger than the nucleus
What are chloroplasts
Chloroplasts are organelles in plant cells that are green and turn carbon dioxide into oxygen and sugar, site of photosynthesis (nutrition)
