What are the main levels of classifying living things?
Kingdom Phylum Class Subclass Order Family Genus Species
What are the five kingdoms of living things?
Monerans- eubacteria and archaebacteria
- prokaryotic
Protists- single eukaryotic cell
Fungi- organisms that absorb substances originally produced by other living things
Plants- contain chlorophyll to make food
- have rigid walls made of cellulose
Animals
Ecology definiton
Th study of living things in their natural surroundings
Environment- the surroundings of living things (living and non living)
Human ecology- the study of how humans change the environment, and how these changes affect humans
What is the part of the Earth where life exists?
Biosphere
What are the units within the biosphere?
Niche- the “profession” of the species
Habitat- the “address” of a species
Ecosystem- contains several habitats
Biosphere- living part of the planet, including the atmosphere
