Life Science Flashcards
Prokaryote
Single cells organisms that do not have a nucleus
Eukaryote
An organism that has a nucleus
Organelle
Small part of the cell that has a specific function
Nucleus
Controls the cells activities. Contains genetic material of the cell.
Where is Genetic Material located in the cell?
Found in the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell
Cell Wall
Found in plant cells. Gives a stiff and rigid shape to the cell.
Cell Membrane
Holds the cell together & lets selective substances pass in
Cytoplasm
Watery gel inside a cell. Provides cell shape and holds organelles in place
Vacuoles
Spaces in the cytoplasm where food and chemicals are stored
Mitochondria
Organelle where energy is released in the form of food
Chloroplasts
Organelle in the plant cell that contains chlorophyll
