Life Processes short 2 Flashcards
What is Translocation?
Transport of soluble products of photosynthesis using energy is called translocation and it occurs in the phloem.
Give an example when the phloem moves materials according to the plants needs?
In the spring, sugar stored in the root tissue would be transported to the buds which need energy to grow.
What are the uses of the plant transport system?
Plant transport systems will move energy stored in leaves and raw materials from roots.
What are the uses of lymphs?
Lymph carries digested fat from intestine and drains excess fluid from extra cellular space back into the blood.
Give a note about platelets?
The blood has platelet cells which circulate around the body and plug leaks by helping to clot the blood at points of injury.
What ensures the throat does not collapse?
Rings of cartilage present in the throat around the trachea ensures that the air passage does not collapse.
What happens when artery reaches an organ or tissue?
On reaching an organ or tissue, the artery divides into smaller and smaller vessels to bring the blood in contact with all the individual cells.
What is double circulation ?
Blood sometimes it goes through the heart twice during each cycle in some vertebrates. This is known as double circulation.
Oxygen is carried by what in blood?
Red blood corpsules
