How did Population increase cause poverty?
Population rose by 43% from 1550 - 1600 - due to the fact there was not enough infrastructure people became desperate. Death rates also increased.
How did Inflation cause poverty?
Demand for food increased so prices changed, however wages didn’t change. All currencies decreased in value due to exploration
How did Harvests cause poverty?
A string of bad harvests due to innovation and agricultural crisis. people started dying of starvation due to lack of food.
How did Enclosure cause poverty?
Animals were now kept on owned land, this meant people became homeless. Urbanisation was therefore caused.
How did Sheep Farming cause poverty?
Prices of wool increased meaning less space for crops. Many lost jobs as sheep farming wasn’t labour intense.
Who were the deserving poor?
People who wanted to help themselves but couldn’t - usually able-bodied people or people in urban areas
Who were the undeserving poor?
Untrustworthy beggars who had no interest in honest work
Who was the counterfeit crank?
Someone who would bite soap to froth at the mouth so would act as if he was in a fit to get money

A woman who would undress Infront of a man to be take somewhere. The man would be beaten up by woman’s accomplices

Cut himself and put dirty bandages on it, this was used to create sympathy

Pretended he was mad - some barked or put chicken heads into their ears

Designed to help people, threatened the undeserving, inconsistency as many areas didn’t fulfil it. Made in 1601

Introduced a house of correction to help the underserving poor

Sent out censuses to find the poor who needed help and support

Workhouses provided jobs so the underserving poor could earn money
