What were children taught in History?
About the great German military victories and about great German heroes of the past. Also how the Jews had always been the enemy of Germany
What were children taught in geography?
That the German borders should extend to take in the lands that had been lost under the T.O.V
What did children learn in biology?
It became a study of the different races to prove that the Nazi belief in racial superiority was a sound belief
What did children learn in maths?
Were given maths problems that also taught Nazi ideas e.g. they had to calculate the amount of money that could be saved if the country did not have to look after people with disabilities
What did children learn in science?
It required that the principles of shooting be studied; military aviation science; bridge building
What did children learn in PE?
The emphasis was on building up physical fitness. Boys needed to be fit to be the soldiers of the future. Girls had to be fit to have lots off of children
What did Girls learn in school?
Domestic science = taught cookery, needlework and housekeeping
Eugenics = taught about the characteristics to look out for in a perfect husband and father
What were special schools?
They were for the brightest and fittest boys who had been identified as being possible political or military leaders of the future. These were known as Adolf Hitler schools.
What were Order Castle schools?
These took pupils to the limits of physical endurance. War games used live ammunition and pupils were killed at these schools
What was the Hitler Youth?
It controlled the activities of young people outside of the classroom. It offered excitement for many: hikes, camps and comradeship. The Youth Law 1936 banned an all other youth groups and made membership compulsory.
What was the league of German Maidens?
They learned Nazi songs and were taught Nazi ideas. Girls had to run 60 metres in 14 secs, complete a 2 hour march and swim 100 metres and know how to make a bed. Also learn how to cook and clean as well as being prepared to be mothers
How was the Nazis actions effective?
Most young people did not oppose indoctrination.
Many young people joined freely. They liked the adventures and opportunities that they got.
Thousands of people swore an oath of loyalty to Hitler on his birthday in 1936.
How was the Nazis action not effective?
Standards in education went down because of the emphasis on indoctrination.
School teachers complained that boys and girls were so tired from attending evening meetings of the Hitler Youth.
Some young people grew their hair long and listened to jazz music from Britain and the USA.
