Life cycle of SARS-COV 2 Flashcards
SARS-COV2 life cycle requirement
• requires ATP
ENTRY
• Viral protein needs to get in so it can access ribosomes and mitochondria
Occurs via 2 stages:
• Receptor mediated endocytosis (RME)
• Fusion at PM (virus triggers membrane fusion process)
- Virus needs to find cellular protein to get into the cell
- For SARS-COV2 it is ACE-2
What is RME?
• Receptor mediated endocytosis
Bulk amounts of specific molecules can be imported into a cell after binding to cell surface receptors
• Molecules which are bound – taken into cell via INWARD folding of cell surface membrane
• Cell surface membrane is PINCHED OFF into a vesicle within the cell
REPLICATION
• Building blocks of virus are made and RNA is copied
Occurs via:
• Viral RNA translation to make proteins
• Genome replication to make more viruses
• Assembly
EGRESS
Occurs via:
• Envelopment
• Exocytosis mediated egress
