Lichen Planus and Lichenoid Reactions Flashcards
Lichen Planus
Clinically distinctive maculopapilar mucocutaneous rash with characteristic
LP CP
Violaceous papule topped with silver scale
LP GF
40+ years age
F>M
2% of population
Histopathology of LP
Epithelium might be hyperkeratotic, hyperplastic, atrophic or ulcerated
langerhans cells
antigens presented to t cells
t cells infiltrate back to the altered epithelium and kill individual basal cells
Persistency of LP
On going and non-resolving inflammatory response widens to include other antigens on the surface of the basal keratinocytes and perpetuates through the mucosal attack by the immune response
Difference between LP and LR?
OLP is a consequence of T cell mediated autoinflammatory process to a still unknown antigen
OLR might be caused by drugs, dental restorative instruments and dental plaque
