FOUNDATIONAL EQUALITY
Rights all human haves by virtue of being born which can’t be taken away (natural, inalienable rights)
FORMAL EQUALITY
All individuals have same legal & political rights in society
EQUALITY OF OPPORTUNITY
All individuals should have equal chances in life to rise & fall
SOCIAL CONTRACT
State/society is set up with agreement from the people to respect its laws which serve to protect them
MERITOCRACY
A society organised on the basis that success is based on ability & hard work
MECHANISTIC THEORY
State created to serve the people & act in their interests
TOLERANCE
Willingness to respect values, customs & beliefs with which one disagrees
LIMITED GOVERNMENT
Role of gov. limited by checks & balances, and a separation of powers because of the corrupting nature of power
