How did Liberalism come about?
Liberalism emerged in reaction o the rule of monarchies and aristocratic privilege in the early modern world.
What was Liberalism a part of?
It was a part of the Enlightenment, an 18th-century intellectual movement that rejected traditional social, political and religious ideas, and stressed the power of reason and the importance of tolerance and freedom from tyranny.
What did the thinkers believe?
They believed in abolishing traditional restrictions on the freedom of the individual, whether imposed by the government or church.
They also held that people were born with different potential but equal rights.
