Q

Individualism

A

Typically, lives and identities were determined by the social groups to which they belonged: family, village, local community or social class. individualism encourages people to think for themselves and think of themselves in personal terms. As scientific explanations gradually displaced traditional religious theories, society was increasingly understood from the perspective of the human individual. Human beings were thought to possess personal and distinctive qualities: each was of special value.
