People must freely give and renew their consent to be governed. People also have the right to rebel if this contract is broken.

Why does liberalism support democracy?
It enables accountability and has educational value. Also encourages political stability and gives political voice to groups and interests.
Why does liberalism fear excessive democracy?
Can lead to tyranny of the majority, thus suppressing individual freedom.
What is the general liberal consensus on democracy?
They support it as long as it has constitutional framework and rights are protected.
