What are RAID teams?
Rapid assessment interface and discharge teams
What is somatisation disorder?
This is characterised with repeated presentation of physical symptoms that is the manifestation of psychological disorder
What is the management fo somatisation disorder?
It needs to be diagnosed to limit additional harm through investigations, there can also be psychotherapy
What are functional somatic syndromes?
These are a somatisation disorder that presents with one physical complaint e.g. IBS
What is somatoform pain disorder?
Pain that cannot be explained by physiological process
What medical management can be used for functional somatic syndromes?
Can use antidepressants
How do you treat hypochondriacal disorder?
Need to rule out any physical causes and then can impliment psychological treatment e.g. CBT
What is body dysmorphic disorder?
This is persistent preoccupation with the appearance of the body, this often leads to lots of plastic surgery
What is conversion disorder? How is it treated?
This is a subconsious phenomenon where there are deficits in voluntary motor or sensory function e.g. not able to move arm.
This shows underlying conflict in the mind
Treatment involves gaining insight about the disorder
What is dissociative disorder?
This is like conversion disorder of the mind in which there may be amnesia, identity disorder etc.
What is facticious disorder?
Purposely pretenting to have symptoms to obtain the ‘sick role’
How can thyroid conditions present with psychiatric symptoms?
Hyperthyroid - anxiety, impaired cognition, decreased concentration
Hypothyroid - depressed affect, lethargy, paranoia
How can cushings present in terms of psychiatric symptoms?
Depression, Insomnia, psychosis
