What are the conditions for compulsory admission under the mental health act?
That the patient is suffering from a mental health condition of a nature and degree that warrants detention AND they are a danger to themselves or others
What is section 2?
admission for assessment for up to 28 days
What is section 3?
admission for treatment for up to 6 months
What is section 4?
72 hour assessment order
used as an emergency, when a section 2 would involve an unacceptable delay
What is section 5?
Gives powers to hold a patient who is a voluntary patient if they try to leave
What is section 135?
a court order can be obtained to allow the police to break into a property to remove a person to a Place of Safety
What is section 136?
someone found in a public place who appears to have a mental disorder can be taken by the police to a Place of Safety
What is section 17a?
Supervised community treatment (Community treatment order)
What is a personality disorder?
This is enduring, persistent, pervasive, Distressful or causes impairment of social functioning
What is paranoid personality?
Sensitive, suspicious
What is schizoid personality?
Emotionally cold and unattached, lack of interest in others
What is schizotypal personality?
Interpersonal discomfort with perculiar ideas, perceptions and behaviour
What is dissocial personality?
This is Callous lack of concern for others, irresponsible and irritable
What is emotionally unstable personality?
This is unclear identity, intense unstable relationships, unpredictable affect
What is narcissistic personality?
Grandiocity, lack of empathy, need for admiration
