Describe how mindfulness and compassion are interrelated?
A
Mindfulness cultivates compassion:
- What we practice becomes stronger
- slowing down
- interdependence
- remembering our essential nature
Attitude: (acceptance, kindness, openness, etc.)
Slowing down:
- when we are hurried, stressed, scared we lose touch with our natural compassion.
- mindfulness helps us slow down, see clearly and stay connected to our deepest values
Interdependence:
- We are all connected - regardless of religion, race, gender, sexuality, age, etc.
- We are all part of this thing called “humanity”
Remembering our essential nature:
- Learning to welcome all of our experiences with compassion.. even the seemingly unforgivable ones.

Define the 3 main components of mindfulness?
A
- Intention, Attention, Attitude.
- Paying (attention) to experience in the present moment.
- Relating to experience without judgment or resistance (attitude).
- Relating to the experience with the desire (intention) to alleviate suffering.

What is Mind Body Stress Reduction?
A
- MBSR is a well defined and systematic patient - centered educational approach which uses training in mindfulness meditation to teach people how to take better care of themselves and live healthier and more adaptive lives.

Who may benefit from MBSR?
A
- Anybody experiencing burn-out (students, physicians, professors)
- Pregnant women
- PTSD and other trauma related disorders
- Patients in pain
- The possibilities are endless
