Lexis
Lexis refers to the entire vocabulary of a language
Taboo
The term taboo language refers to words and phrases that are generally considered inappropriate in certain contexts.
Dialect
Dialect is a form of the language that is spoken in a particular part of the country or by a particular group of people.
Register
Language register, or formality definition, is controlled by using three language points. Register in English uses grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation.
Idiolect
The concept of idiolect refers to a very specific phenomenon—the speech variety, or linguistic system, used by a particular individual.
Onomastics
In the field of linguistics, onomastics is the study of proper names, especially the names of people and places
Colloqualism
A word, phrase, or expression characteristic of ordinary or familiar conversation rather than formal speech or writing, as “She’s out” for “She is not at home.”
Sociolect
In sociolinguistics, a sociolect is a form of language or a set of lexical items used by a socioeconomic class, a profession, an age group or other social group.
Lexical Change
Lexical change refers to a change in the meaning or use of a word, or a generational shift in preference for one word or phrase over another.
Slang
Slang is language of an informal register that members of particular in-groups favor over the common vocabulary of a standard language in order to establish group identity, exclude outsiders, or both.
Vernacular
The commonly spoken language or dialect of a particular people or place
