Free Morpheme
A stand alone word eg. Dog or cat
Bound Morpheme
a word part that cannot stand alone as a word, but must be attached to another word
Prefix
an added word part (bound morpheme) that attaches to the front of a word
Suffix
an added word part (bound morpheme) that attaches to the end of a word
Inflectional Morpheme
An inflectional morpheme is a letter, or group of letters, that adds grammatical information to a word.
Derivational Morpheme
a prefix or suffix that is added to a word to create a new word or meaning. Eg. Happy becomes Unhappy, act - action
Semantics
the study of word meanings and their variations
Lexeme
The basic unit of meaning that represents a set of related words.
Noun
a word (other than a pronoun) used to identify any of a class of people, places, or things (common noun), or to name a particular one of these (proper noun).
Pronouns
a word used to refer to another in discourse
adjectives
a word to describe a noun
adverb
a word to describe, add meaning, modify or qualify a verb
verb
expresses an action, occurrence, or state of being
determiners
a modifying word that determines the kind of reference a noun or noun group has, for example a, the, every.
prepositions
a word preceding a noun that relates it to the previous noun
conjunctions
a word to tie two clauses together
interjections
A phrase that is added into discourse to convey emotion or thought.
